The metaphysical heart is the seat of knowledge and will, casting rules over the physical as its kingdom. The heart commands each part of the body to action, guiding the intellect to create havoc or peace. Aisha, the wife of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), said, “Man’s eyes are a guide, his ears a funnel, his tongue an interpreter, his hands rings. His feet couriers, his heart is the king. If the king enjoys good health. So also do his armies.” Mindful of the intricacies of this organ, it ebbs and flows, ensuring the heart’s control, firmness and clarity. In this ongoing series, the weathervane becomes a metaphor. If the heart is left unchecked, yielding to every whim and desire, it is at the mercy of the winds; turning lightly in the gentle breeze or whirling madly in a storm.
