KARACHI WORK (1999-2001)

The time was incredibly exciting. American Fast food had just arrived in Pakistan adding contradictory layers to the already complicated construct of society.

The endless repetition of an image and the size and massiveness of my paintings, are the physical attributes that I associate with the scale of this phenomenon in Karachi. The expansiveness of the advertising campaign invaded the Karachi cityscape overnight and polluted the skyline with huge billboards and slogans. In my view, the impact of fast food culture on the minds of people was similar in scale and impact.
